Building Design chose me.

Today, I can proudly say that I am a multi award-winning building designer with great attention to detail, a problem-solving mentality and a methodical & thorough approach to design & documentation. It’s been a journey….

Like a lot of kids, my first interest in building was playing with Lego. We had a whole Lego Village, with roads & all, and my constructions always needed to be bigger & better than the other kids.

In my early teens I discovered technical drawing, and when my parents bought me an A3 size ‘Faber Castel’ drawing board, I’d spend weekends drawing up plans for houses I had designed. The ability to picture a 3-dimensional space or object, and convert it into a 2-dimension drawing was innate. I knew back then that I wanted to have a career designing buildings.

Very early in my career, those I worked for seemed to see something ‘more’ in me. An experienced architect took me under his wing, and taught me the intricacies of the occupation. Pretty soon I found myself managing documentation teams, and administering building contracts on complex construction projects within large inner city architectural practices – and I loved it!

My next step was designing and building my own home as an owner builder. This gave me great hands-on experience of the ‘day to day’ on a building site. I was the designer and produced the documentation, whilst I also got to experience things from the perspective of the client, builder & project manager. It further improved my technical knowledge & understanding, which I found also impacted my approach to design & construction detailing, and my ability to solve construction problems.

After gaining 21 years’ experience, honing my skills in inner city architectural firms working on luxury residential, multi-unit residential, commercial, industrial & institutional projects, it was time to establish my own practice. I launched Studio 23 design in 2017 to continue providing design excellence, and high-quality documentation in residential & commercial buildings.

I look forward to the opportunity of working with you on your next design.
